Synopsis
Recent developments in the fields of computing, communications and information technology have made it a requirement for all professionals to possess and appreciate the basic operations of computer software applications. Hence, this course will teach students how to solve the most common word processing problems using a variety of skills including basic document creation, retrieval, editing, graphics and advanced formatting. Students will be introduced to spreadsheet application including data entry, creating formulas, using functions and graphing. Using presentation software, students will learn how to use computer technology to replace and/or augment traditional presentation tools.

Hence, this course exposes students to the basics of computer hardware, systems and application software, and current IT developments to enable them to utilize computers to the maximum in their chosen vocation. This course will explore the fundamental computing concepts that include hardware and software, data and information manipulation, programming languages, application packages and communications technologies.

Mathematics has always been a very important part in computing. Throughout this course students will be exposed to different forms of mathematics to give them a better understanding on how mathematical features are applied to computing systems. This is vital as most programming languages involve the fundamental principles of mathematics. Students will be introduced to the application of the mathematical ideas and techniques in the real world of computing. It covers basic mathematics concepts like number sets, sets, probability, matrix and transformation.

This course introduces students to the principles, techniques, and the process of copywriting for the print, electronic and new media. It also discusses advertising creative strategies and the set-up and operations of the creative department. Legal and ethical issues pertaining to advertising copy are also discussed in this course.

Contemporary photography and current thinking in photography is discussed in the light of human ecological concepts. The primary technical focus of the course is black and white exhibit-quality printing and studio lighting. In addition, this course provides students with a basic introduction to the colour theory of photography and the technical operation of the digital cameras and digital imaging.
