This course explores the power of visual messages in informing, educating and persuading
an individual. It is an attempt to discover why some images are remembered while most are not. Students will learn how to turn visuals into something rhetorical and persuasive within a professional context.

This course introduces students to the basic understanding of mass communication as a form of human communication and the functions and components of the various media. First, the course will look at the fundamentals of mass communication, media effects, mass audience and the various media. Particular attention will be given on the technological development of the media, ownership and the control of the media and their socio-economic implication.

Synopsis: This course provides students with the knowledge of media laws and policies in Malaysia, as it is crucial for media practitioners to know the laws and policies that govern and regulate the industry in the country. This will enable them to undertake media practice professionally.
Course Objectives:
The objectives of this course are to:
- Introduce
students to the laws and policies that regulate the media industry in the
country.
- Study the relevant legal concepts and issues pertaining to media law.
- Provide students an insight into the history of media law in Malaysia.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Gain an insight into the relationship between media law and policy.
- Discuss the legal aspects of the media and their policies in Malaysia.
- Have analytical and critical thinking in the context of media law ad policy.
In this course, research methods are presented as a model for systematic inquiry and critical thinking about issues of race/ethnicity, class, gender and the effects of mass produced culture on individuals and society. Students are introduced to research concepts, quantitative and qualitative methods and statistics which enable them to undertake research projects at tertiary level.
