This course is divided into three parts. The first part provides a sociological ‘big picture’, examining relationships between the various components of the media process. The second section focuses on the different dimensions of the media process (production, content and audiences) and different types of media (film, music, news, television, books, computers, cyberspace and so on). The third explores social relationships, highlights the tension between constraint and action in the media process, and sees how social, economic and political forces have shaped the development and application of technology.
