This course is an introduction to linguistics, the scientific study of human language. This course discusses the nature of language, the functions of linguistics, the structure of language, the evolution of language, the relationships between language and characters and research methods in linguistics, etc. Through the basic theories of linguistics, students will be equipped with the basic knowledge of linguistics that facilitates them in Chinese Studies.
